Press release – Azomures, partner in the program “Books of Childhood”

Tîrgu Mureș
09 October 2015

The team of Curtea Veche Association, together with representatives of Azomureș and Agricola 96 SA Tigănași will offer 2000 books to four schools in Țigănași commune, Iași county. The students will also receive sets of school supplies from Herlitz Romania.

The book donation will take place on Thursday, 15 October, as part of two consecutive events organized in the primary and lower secondary School in the town of Cârniceni (11.00 o’clock) and in „Costache Antoniu” School in Țigănași 12.00 o’clock).

The events will include speeches delivered by: Stela Popescu (actress), Iren Arsene (President, Curtea Veche Association), Aurel Placinschi (Manager, Agricola 96 SA Tigănași), Mihai Aniţei (General Manager, Azomureş) and Smaranda Nicolau (actress and theatrical pedagogy specialist), who will perform an interactive lecture for the children attending the event. The host of the event will be Mrs. Romașcanu Silvia (Principal, „Costache Antoniu” School).

The increasingly disturbing statistics regarding poor results in the educational system, the school dropout rate, the dramatic decrease of reading habits among the young generation as well as text comprehension difficulties are only some of the reasons why Azomureș and Agricola 96 SA Tigănași have decided to join the national reading program initiated by Curtea Veche Association.

„Due to the mineral fertilizers which we produce in Tîrgu Mureș we have a special relation with the rural environment. We are one of the essential factors whose activity has an impact on both agricultural development and farmers and their families living in these regions. Rural environment should not be regarded as lack of opportunity by those who have not managed to work and live in a big city. Romania still needs people working in agriculture. Children should not be deprived of adequate education only because they don’t study in one of the renowned schools in the urban environment. We support the program “Books of Childhood” for the chance it gives to all children to discover reading”, declared Mr. Mihai Aniţei (General Manager, Azomureş).

„I consider that the education received during the first years of school is essential in an individual’s formation. These are the years when children’s love for reading is most easily induced. We support this event for book donations due to the impact it has on children, especially since the event is also promoted by Mrs. Stela Popescu, who is a personality of Romanian culture” added Aurel Placinschi (General Manager Agricola 96 SA Țigănași).

The event organized in Iasi county is part of a national reading program entitled “Books of Childhood”, initiated by Curtea Veche Association, which, besides book donations also includes the foundation of reading clubs, visits in schools and children’s centers, meetings with parents, teachers and students and reading workshops in bookstores.

Press release – Implementing modernization activities

On Azomures platform, the beginning of September marked the start-up for the final stage of the investment project initiated in 2012.
The urea production facility was shut down in order to perform technical overhaul and to put the new equipment into operation:

  • Compressor room
  • Installation for urea solution production
  • Urea granulation unit

The new facilities permit the production of a new type of fertilizer, Granular Urea, which is more environment-friendly and of better quality. The technological process meets the highest standards with regard to environment protection, being one of the most modern in Europe.
The activities in two of the Ammonia production facilities have also been halted for the past few days for technical overhaul and to integrate the modernized equipment in the production flow. During the modernization process, some sources of Ammonia emissions have been eliminated. Thus, once the technological processes of the installations are resumed, the stricter environment protection regulations which are applicable starting from 1st of January 2016 will be observed.
During the technical overhaul, all three fertilizer granulation units will be shut down in different stages, in order to put into operation the equipment which facilitates the significant decrease of environment emissions. The equipment is currently being installed, according to the schedule in the conformance plan agreed with the environment protection authorities.
“All investments agreed upon in the conformance plan will be completed in order to ensure compliance with the new environment protection regulation which will be applicable from January 2016. I am convinced that we can honor the commitment which we have made to the community, that of transforming Azomures in a modern, environment-friendly facility” declared Mihai Anitei, General Manager of the plant.
During the technical overhaul, Azomures fertilizers are available for farmers via the Romanian distributors.
Azomures is the most important Romanian fertilizer producer. The supply of best-quality fertilizers as well as the constant technical assistance provided to Romanian farmers is a proof of their valuable cooperation with Azomures. Thus, the plant is a reliable partner of Romanian farmers and it brings a major contribution to the development of the agricultural sector, which is one of the main pillars of the Romanian economy. The manifested concern for sustainable development through environment protection as well as the implementation of various activities dedicated to support the community, place Azomures among the most modern and efficient fertilizer plants in Europe.

Press release – National Chemistry Camp in Tirgu Mures

PRESS RELEASE

Tirgu Mures

1st September 2015

Ameropa Group, with an important tradition in supporting and becoming involved in educational projects, has always encouraged and sustained initiatives dedicated to young people’s development in certain educational domains.

Following this tradition, Azomures – part of Ameropa Group – has become actively involved in the program “National Chemistry Camp” which is being organized in Tirgu-Mures these days. Olympic students from the entire country, together with their teachers, had the opportunity to visit the most important parts of the Azomures plant yesterday and interact with specialists working on the platform. The greatest attraction was the presentation of the new equipment, of the modern technology, but especially the control center of the work platform. Students were given explanations regarding the results of these new investments and the impact on the environment.

Students were able to understand the importance of the Azomures products, as they ensure the exceptional quality of agricultural products finally leading to high quality food products. The most attractive part was the explanation, based on practical examples, of the role and significance of chemistry in an industry with such an important contribution to our contemporary modern agriculture.

The experience offered by Azomures to students all over the country with a special interest in chemistry is part of the company’s policy to support education and to prepare students for a future career in chemistry. Azomures has always been acknowledged as a very good center for Chemistry graduates. At present, just like 50 years ago, graduates with the best academic results choose to come and work in the chemical plant.

The efforts of the Azomures Company constitute support and a practical addition to the projects initiated by educational authorities as they are intended to sustain applied research, the close connection between the educational system and the labor market and the preparation of future contests in the chemical domain.

In the future, Azomures will continue the Ameropa tradition and is strongly committed to supporting and initiating educational programs which will develop children’s and young people’s skills in various areas of interest.

Press release – Granular Urea

PRESS RELEASE

Tirgu Mures

1st September 2015

The development of local agriculture by providing high-quality fertilizers is one of the top priorities assumed by Azomures, the most important Romanian fertilizer producer.

In November 2015, the new GRANULAR UREA production installation will start-up, turning Azomures into the only producer of this type of fertilizer in South-Eastern Europe. Azomures will offer farmers a NEW product with substantially improved granulation, which is also an environment-friendly fertilizer. In the range of Nitrogen-based fertilizers, GRANULAR UREA stands out as the fertilizer with the highest Nitrogen (N) content, 46%.

Among the advantages of GRANULAR UREA the following should be mentioned:

  • Uniform granulation
  • Compact, bigger and denser granules
  • The new granulation system prevents Nitrogen (N) loss into the atmosphere; the Nitrogen (N) is captured, transformed into ammoniacal nitrogen and provided to plants.
  • The higher density combined with the smoother surface, result in slower solubility, increasing the Nitrogen (N) recovery rate.
  • GRANULAR UREA acts as a neutral substance in the soil-plant system (pH – approximately 7)
  • Application precision and application width are increased by up to 50 % compared to prilled urea
  • The increased resistance to crushing provides storage and handling of the product without causing dust
  • The machinery workload is reduced, as they cover a larger spreading area, even under adverse weather conditions.

GRANULAR UREA does not fall into the category of fertilizers requiring transportation restrictions, therefore reducing storage and handling costs.

Press release – Investment inauguration event, November 2015

PRESS RELEASE

Tirgu Mures

25th August 2015

On November 2015, Azomures will celebrate completion of the amplest modernization process in its recent history by a special event organized in Tirgu Mures. Local and central authorities, members of the local community, company partners and mass media will be invited to attend the event.

The investments have reached the amount of 240 million Euro and their effect is a decrease of emissions in the environment, the increase of production capacity and also an improved quality of the final product.

Among other objectives, the project consisted of modernizing the Urea production unit, of the Ammonia III and Ammonia IV plants and building a new industrial water treatment facility. The new installations and the modernized ones will be put into operation in December 2015. The upgrades performed at the enterprise ensure compliance with the new environmental standards applicable from January 2016.

In only 3 years, since 2013 to 2015, the Azomures stockholder, Ameropa, has made an investment 6 times bigger than all the investments made over a period of 14 years by the previous owner.. Following Ameropa international policy, Azomures integrates economic and social objectives as part of our business strategy, with the intent of promoting sustainable development.

Azomures has benefited from the support and trust of the state authorities and of one of the most important partners, the local community. Thus, the modernization program is taking place according to the plan, producing long-term benefits in terms of local and national economy.

Press release – Information for the community

Press Release

Tirgu Mures

13th August 2015

The Azomures stockholder, the Swiss company Ameropa and the Azomures executive management team, respects every citizen’s right to express a point of view on a situation in their community. The Azomures stockolder is familiar with the activity on the Tirgu Mures platform and reassures the population and the local authorities that it observes the conformance plan required by the Romanian authorities to prepare the equipment in Azomures for the date of January 1, 2016 when stricter environmental protection regulation will apply.

Ameropa started the most extensive investment program of the last 30 years in the spring of 2012, when the Romanian state issued the license of operation, which constituted the guarantee that the company had the time required to upgrade facilities in Tirgu Mures.

Over 240 million Euro have been allocated and very important steps have been taken, while the conformance plan required by the environmental authorities is strictly observed. The periodic checks by the competent authorities have confirmed progress in this respect. Unfortunately, due to certain promises that were not fulfilled in the period when Azomures had different stockholders, we now lack the necessary credibility from the population that things can actually change. The effects of these investments will be perceived once the facilities are put into operation.

Efforts are currently being made to have the present non-modernized industrial facilities operate within the limits of the integrated environment license. The only discrepancy in the normal operating process is the occasional exceedance of ammonia emission in the vicinity of the platform.

By the end of the year, the new industrial facilities will have been put into operation, so that the Azomures activity will be able to continue in safe conditions for the environment after 1st January 2016.

Azomures will guarantee safe economic conditions for the community in Tirgu Mures in the coming years. These conditions will also be beneficial to the national economy, as Romanian farmers will be provided with high quality fertilizers at reasonable prices, that result in rich crops which are then turned into food products for Romanians, including the Tirgu Mures community.

Press release – Application of controlled shutdown procedures

PRESS RELEASE

Tirgu Mures

17th July 2015

The production of mineral fertilizers on the Azomures platform returned to normal after the unexpected event generated by a power failure on 15th July, 2015, at 16:22.

The current variation caused by the failure of the high-voltage substation TRAFO 1 Electrica imposed the implementation of standard emergency shutdown procedures for the facilities on the platform. The shutdown was conducted according to the standard procedure in a few minutes, after the interruption of electricity supply and it did not imply any danger to the population, the employees from the platform or for the functioning equipment.

Once the electricity supply was resumed, at 17.00, the standard procedure of restarting the equipment was initiated. The procedure lasted for several hours.
During the shutdown procedure, pollutant emissions were local and normal under such circumstances. The automatic analyzers of Azomures and those of the Mures County Environmental Protection Agency recorded no exceedance of the maximum admitted ammonia concentration in the air.

The accidental shutdown of the equipment was communicated, according to procedures, to the Environmental Protection Agency and to the National Environmental Guard - Mures County Commissioner’s Office.

Press release – Eco-Rom Packaging Certificate

PRESS RELEASE

Tirgu Mures

June 16th 2015

Azomures receives the Eco-Rom certification for active involvement in environmental protection through recycling of packaging in which the products have been delivered to the domestic market.

Azomures, the main producer of fertilizers for agriculture in Romania, received official recognition from Eco-Rom Packaging for its activity in 2014 aimed at reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

According to the organization Eco-Rom Packaging, expert in the management of packaging and packaging waste, Azomures managed to ensure a reduction in GHG (greenhouse gases) of 1366.28 tons of CO2 equivalent due to the process of recycling and recovery of packaging waste originating from the Azomures products. The amount of carbon dioxide that would have been released in the atmosphere in the absence of this action is equivalent to the emissions of a car traveling 5,062,796 kilometers.

The calculation was conducted by BIO by Deloitte in cooperation with organizations from 25 European countries, including Romania.

Azomures thus proves, once again, its constant concern for environmental protection. The results obtained in the waste recovery actions complete the company’s approaches for the modernization of the equipment with the purpose of sustainable development.
