Azomureș, Romania’s most important producer of mineral fertilizers, has successfully completed investment in a new treatment plant for industrial waters from the production platform. The general contractor of the project was Dutch company Nijhuis Industries, which specializes in such projects. The investment made by Azomureș in the industrial water treatment plant amounted to over 10 million euros and was part of the general investment plan for the period 2012 – 2015. Feasibility and design studies started as early as 2013 and construction of the industrial water treatment plant began in the spring of 2015. The project was completed in November 2015, in accordance with construction plans. The transfer of the operating procedures to Aquaserv Tirgu Mures was completed this year and currently the industrial water treatment plant is functioning within its normal parameters. The new industrial water treatment plant was designed, in collaboration with Aquaserv Tîrgu Mures, in such a way as to process industrial waters from different sources as well, waters produced by companies in the Cristești area. The Azomureș wastewater treatment plant is designed to process 939 mc/h of industrial waters and it is formed of one pumping station, two biological treatment pools, two decanters, one test lab, one control panel and administrative offices. By implementing this investment objective, Azomureș reasserts its responsible role in the operation of fertilizer production equipment, in accordance with European regulations of environment protection.
In the period August 26 – September 2, the team of the “Curtea Veche” Association together with the Azomureș Company organized the Narativ Reading Camp for children in Criț village, Brașov County. Twenty student participants aged 7-12 were selected in Tîrgu Mureș following a school contest in which the contestants were asked to express in writing the reasons why they like reading. Children of Azomureș employees, selected on the basis of their written essays, also attended the event. The children spent a whole week at Casa Kraus, in a 15thcentury-like atmosphere reminding them of the novel which they studied in the reading camp – “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, retold from Victor Hugo’s novel, book appeared in the collection “Books of Childhood” at Curtea Veche Publishing. The team prepared a varied program for the participants. The workshops led by two educators specialized in theatrical art were excellent occasions for the children to impersonate the characters from the book. Through practical activities, the children acquired information regarding the history of the epoch depicted in the novel, they practised a series of techniques belonging to the art of public speaking and improvisation and in the last day of the event, they staged a performance for their parents. As an addition to these activities, agricultural engineers shared specific information with the children, who were thus able to experience not only the joy of reading, but also the joy brought by nature, land work and the harvest this yields. The program also included trips to visit the fortified churches of Viscri and Saschiz as well as the neighboring farms, where children learned things about agriculture and animal raising. The “Narativ”reading camp is part of the series of social responsibility projects implemented by the Azomureș, company, many of which belong to the educational sector.
Azomureș brings to public attention the necessity of resuming activity on one of the most important industrial platforms of the city, the Company of Photosensitive Materials in the Unirii district of the Tîrgu Mureș city. Having been shut down in 2003, for reasons mostly related to the digital revolution, the platform can now become attractive for different investments in industry, but also for original cultural projects. Such an event will take place on June 9, 2016, in one of the halls of the „Azo Photo” factory which was purposely restored for this occasion: a classical music concert in collaboration with the “Cultura Viva” Association, founder of the „Academia Sighișoara” Festival. Musicians from Romania and from abroad will perform in a concert whose theme is “George Enescu – Bartok Bela, Interferences”. Among the artists we mention: Alexandru Gavrilovici – Switzerland, Andreea Duca -Spain, Stephane Giampellegrini – Luxemburg, Aurelian Bacan – Romania and the famous string quartet Arcadia – Romania. “Cultura Viva” Association, founder of the „Academia Sighișoara” School-Festival has been supported by Azomureș as a sponsor over the last years. It is therefore natural that the opening of a new cultural space in Tîrgu Mures should be accompanied by an academic musical touch. The program of the concert to be delivered on June 9 will include musical contributions which professors from all over the world and also the elite of the Romanian musicians will present at the “Academia Sighisoara” 2016 event, between August 1-14” declared Alexandru Gavrilovici, president of the „Cultura Viva” Association. Given the fact that the Mures county, and especially the city of Tîrgu Mureș is a cultural center of classical music, due to the activity of the State Philharmonic Orchestra and the Art Highschool, Azomureș offers its support for two talented young people to participate in the courses of the „Academia Sighișoara Festival. The grants, which cover all participation expenses, will be offered to students in the 11th and 12th grades, following a selection process coordinated by the representatives of the „Academia Sighișoara Festival and of the Tîrgu Mureș Philharmonic Orchestra. The selection contest will take place on April 15, 9 o’clock, in the Small Concert Hall of the Palace of Culture.
During the last few months, the Azomureș Company has undergone the procedures of obtaining the Integrated Environmental Authorization, in accordance with the new regulations in force since the beginning of 2016. The process was completed, and the Agency for Environmental Protection has decided to issue the authorization, upon fulfillment by Azomures of all objectives imposed by national environmental authorities in accordance with the conformance plan. The new integrated environmental authorization complies with the current requirements of European legislation regarding environment protection. Issuance of the Integrated Environmental Authorization signifies completion of one of the most important modernization stages in the history of the plant. Starting with 2012, an investment program worth over 240 million Euros has been implemented in order to revamp and modernize equipment. The investment implied, among others, modernization of some key equipment on the platform (such as the Urea plant and the Ammonia installation) and construction of a new industrial water treatment station. Thus, it has been insured that the production of agricultural fertilizers will continue and the company will maintain its status as a major industrial landmark for both local and national economy.
Azomures has recently finalized one of the most important social responsibility campaigns implemented together with the employees from the fertilizer production platform.
The second edition of the campaign “Let’s give together for Christmas” took place between 19 November – 18 December 2015 and, due to the employees’ significant support, has managed to put a smile on the faces of those who cannot fully enjoy the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth because of financial difficulties or other serious family problems.
Each Azomures employee could donate any sum of money, and the collected sum was doubled by the company employers at the end of the campaign. Thus it was possible to raise an important amount of money, which was used to acquire durable goods (large household appliances – fridges, professional cooker, potato-peeling machine, laptops) and food for the following beneficiaries:
School Center for Inclusive Education no.1 in Tirgu Mures (227 children)
5 families whose members are Azomures employees
6 economically disadvantaged families in Tirgu Mures
5 students in the Mures county with excellent academic results
The Emergency Intervention Service (abuse, neglect, traffic, migration, child helpline)
11 cookers for the inhabitants of the social housing apartment building on Cugir street, in the Mureseni district.
Besides the Azomures employees, this campaign was supported by companies working on the Tirgu Mures platform, to which a part of the maintenance activities were outsourced.
By initiating such campaigns, Azomures reaffirms its role in the local community and appreciates the way in which the company employees have chosen to become involved in activities helping people in need.
Tîrgu Mureș, 19 November 2015 – Azomureş celebrated completion of the largest modernization program in the last 30 years, through an event organized in Tȋrgu Mureş.
In the presence of authorities and the chemical plant’s partners, Azomureş, together with the Ameropa board, marked the beginning of a new phase with the promising perspective of better productivity, improved products and reduction of environment emissions.
The plant revamp ensures compliance with the new environmental regulations applicable from January 2016.
The investments worth 240 million € included, among others, modernization of key installations on the platform (such as the Urea plant and the Ammonia plant) and building of a new industrial water treatment station. The installations will be commissioned in December 2015. Azomureş has thus reconfirmed its valuable contribution to Romanian agriculture. In this respect, over 70% of the plant’s fertilizer production goes to the Romanian market. Moreover, the plant for the new product, granular urea, which is unique in South-Eastern Europe, has been completed.
Azomureş will continue to actively support farmers, through technical assistance and the provision of different materials, to make adequate use of fertilizers.
This year, Azomureş ended an important phase in its evolution, a phase which consolidates the plant’s role in Romanian agriculture and its position among Europe’s top-ranking chemical plants.
Azomures, the most important Romanian producer of mineral fertilizers for agricultural use, has completed investment on one of the main ammonium nitrate granulation units. Tîrgu Mureș, 03 November 2015 – Works on the new plant have been completed based on a project of Canadian company Lavalin, one of the world’s most prestigious companies in this field. The plant was set up by Romanian companies such as: Comoserv, Moldocor, Actemium and Emerson. During five months, the entire Azomures team managed to complete works on the new filtration plant – emission capture and scrubbing equipment – within the targeted deadline. The result of this investment worth 4 million Euro leads to compliance with the new environmental parameters in accordance with the European Union directives regarding environment protection. Moreover, works on the new filtration plant for the second ammonium nitrate (fertilizer) granulation unit are 90 % completed and the plant will be commissioned shortly. Azomures has the same objective: to decrease emission level and to comply with European standards – thus becoming one of the most important landmarks on Romania’s economic map. The value of the investment rises to approximately 4.5 million Euro. In parallel with the commissioning of new equipment in the granulation units, all the investments contained in the conformance plan imposed by European authorities are currently being finalized on the Azomures platform. On the occasion of this accomplishment, Azomures has informed the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Environmental Police of the commissioning of new equipment.
